WEEK 52 KEEP LOVIN, LIVIN, COOKIN AND CARRY ON!

Good morning legends!

Well, it's Sunday morning and what's left to do but to keep livin, lovin, cookin and carry on!

Being winter, it is the time for fires, and as I write we've started a fire this morning and have planned to fire cook all day. Just to mix it up a bit!

Fire Breakfast...

SCOTTISH PORRIDGE BUTTERY AND SALTY

My dearest Mel has been raving about salty porridge. Always a sweet porridge girl myself this did not sound like my way to enjoy porridge, but WOW!! I m a convert! Warming and easy to digest I have...

Cooked oats in water, added some currants. Once finished and plated up into a bowl, I sprinkled some salt and a few little knobs of butter that melted into the oats. A splash of milk and done. Buttery salty goodness with creamy oats. I used  Harry and James hand-rolled oats, and I touched the heavens!

FIRE LUNCH

I'm about to try a vegetable and barley soup now the coals are hot! Hope it works.

Aramein is going whip up some damper for us to cook and dip in the soup.

Our easy recipe is

4 cups Self Raising flour
1 pinch of salt
2 cups of water.

Mix it into a dough. Adjust water and flour for the right dough consistency to wrap around a stick

FIRE DESSERT

Our new Chum Creek hot chocolate and marshmallows!

We now have the most delicious hot choc, this is our hands-down favourite hot chocolate and our store has beautiful fresh marshmallows. Lots of powdered sugar, soft and plastic-free.It does make the shop ones depressing.

Indulging, in our hot chocolate and marshmallows, a sweet finish for the day!

SOME RECIPES WE'VE BEEN LOVING FROM OUR LOCAL LEGENDS

LARA'S CHOCOLATE BANANA AND BERRY GRANOLA

Here is a lovely share from the Fox family:

Hi Chris

Just wanted to send you this photo that Lara took of her homemade granola mostly from your ingredients.

She doesn’t have a recipe as such but took some ideas from the internet.

Basically, it’s oats with chopped nuts and seeds.  Mix them with olive oil, maple syrup and spices (this one also has raw cacao.  Then roast till crunchy and let cool.  Add chopped dried fruit (this one has banana and cranberry).  Smells great.

Lara usually prepares a bowl of chopped fruit (like apple and pear) and sprinkles this generously over the top.  Pretty healthy breakfast for a teenager I reckon.

Thought you would like to hear about it.

3 INGREDIENTS HEALTHFUL, FRUGAL AND EASY FRUIT CAKE

This is a beauty! A wonderful way to use our store's stunning dried fruit, pop your favorites in, we also have the green tea and wholemeal self raising flour.

Thanks Sandy for this share! We 're making it this week!

DORIS' NOSTALGIC LYGON STREET DARK CHOCOLATE AND HAZELNUT BAR

Doris sent me a message as her socks were knocked off with those hazelnuts I have told you all about and our Callebaut FairTrade dark chocolate.

  • 10 mins to melt dark chocolate in a double boiler
  • mix with roasted hazelnuts
  • pour into a baking paper-lined container (or Agreena wrap perhaps?)
  • pop in the fridge overnight.

Thanks for the awesome quality ingredients to recreate it, Chris!

Loads of cooking inspiration here my lovelies. Cook, eat, be merry and kind. We've got this!

Much love
Chris and fam bam!
